[Dinner is served late in the mess hall because it's a grand banquet in honor of the Magistrate of Kibo. It's a pretty modest celebration, all things considered: the people at Kibo are invited, along with her family, any Searing Wind members who feel like dropping in from wherever they've been as of late, and a few friends among the other Keepers of the Vigil. That's about it.

Still, Kalika looks like she's having fun. Her husband and her children are, of course, all in attendance, together with her husband's familiars and the entire division of the Strays from Seigi. The food, mind you, is excellent, and there is more than enough booze.

You're welcome to come and go as you please. Kalika's easy like that.]

I've been fine. The Pride has not nearly been as busy as your blade has been, but that might be because many of our members are occupying themselves with their respective divisions, or adjusting to a more normal pace.

[Leaning back against the bar, watching the crowd.]

We all have a good amount of field experience, but we could use some work with regard to our actual immersion in the every day routine of the Vigil.

I don't know how to answer that. I suppose it's because I have learned to find a lot of joy in many other things beyond the Vigil?

It's only as difficult as you make it for yourself, really. On my end, it started with a realization.

[Ah, reminiscing...]

[Smiling at you, then taking a swig from her bottle.]

The realization that I was using the fight to define me, and my supposed value as a fighter for the only measuring stick by which to measure myself. I was also using the fight to run away rather than deal with my own issues properly.

[bostova]

[ ... Huh. That gets her thinking, because that sounds... very familiar, actually. ]

[And watching you now for a moment. The two of you are alike in that way, huh? She's just a little further down the road that the both of you are walking.]

It's easy, see, to lose yourself. But the fight will always be there, and in actuality, it doesn't really need you, not as much as you need it. That's dangerous.

[Especially when you start giving things up, and thinking that it's Necessary.]

...I'll keep that in mind. [ Aaand she drinks from her bottle. She doesn't finish it, but she could have. ]

[Reaching over to pat you on the shoulder.]

It takes practice, Bostova. It also involves staring a lot of demons in the face, and learning to be okay with being weak. [But you'll get there. You're a strong one: that much she can see.] And then, after that, maybe you'll start falling in love with life properly, and seeing what you can get out of it whenever you're off the field.

[bostova]

[ Not exactly how she imagined their conversation to be, but... she probably needed this. She turns to Sabina and smiles. ]

If I can handle Umbra on the field, then I'm sure I can handle a few demons. [ And she seriously hopes she can. ]

[Heh.]

Well, Umbra are good practice. You've also faced some pretty shitty situations already, so.

[You'll be fine.]

[ It's... heartwarming, really. How Sabina could have that much confidence in her like that. She doesn't expect that from other people.

I guess I have. It shouldn't be too difficult, then.
